Planning a wedding? Then plan ahead for your perfect day!

How can you make sure everything goes to plan on your special day? Read our tips below to find out how you can be the most organised bride-to-be this year.

Make sure you create a to-do list

Plan as early as you can so you can note all of your ideas – the chances are you’ll think of something new or make revisions many, many times. Ask friends and family for advice and ideas on what they’d like to be included in the wedding. For example, if family members or friends would like to have their photographs taken with you in particular areas of your venue (i.e. a garden with beautiful views), tell your photographer/videographer in advance.

Plan the date as early as possible

Choose your dates carefully – some dates such as Saturdays and Sundays during July and August can be fully booked many months, even more than a year, in advance. Make the guest list and start sending invitations as soon you’ve confirmed it. Brainstorm some ideas for wedding food and drink and find out if any of your guests have specific dietary requirements or preferences.

Choose your venue early

It’s normal for events managers to receive requests for wedding receptions up to 18 months in advance. This makes perfect sense: the earlier you book, the more choice you will have. That gives you more time and freedom to plan the perfect event in the right venue. You’ll also be much better placed to access the best suppliers. You may even benefit from a discount if you book their services months in advance. Secondly, with UK inflation continuing to increase, you could also benefit from inflation-busting prices by booking your supplies well ahead of any new price rises.

Ask questions!

When it comes to organising the biggest event of your life, there’s no such thing as a silly question. Whether you’re querying food, entertainment, capacity or anything else, ask as many questions as you like. Your event manager’s job is not just to create the perfect wedding, but to create the perfect wedding for you. Even if you have an idea that you think might be too ambitious, don’t be afraid to tell your wedding planner. You might be pleasantly surprised to find out that it can be done, or perhaps your planner will come up with an alternative that’s just as exciting but more realistic.
